Hi Darlings!
Today we want to talk with you about summer and skin.
Your summer beauty moodboard probably includes clear and glowy skin, doesn’t it?
Sadly the reality is that hot weather, humidity, and extra sun exposure impact differently on your skin. The key? Update your skin care routine with some simple changes. There are a few switch and tricks you can make to help minimize the seasonal side effects that summer can have on your skin.
The DARLING crew has selected for you some of our must-have brand that will give a boost of freshness to your skin care routine. Keep reading to find some tips to get the glow this summer!
1. Properly Wash Your Face
During the summer months we sweat more due to the hot weather, outdoor activities or simply being more active. Washing our face is the first step to take. Start with a delicate facial cleanser that removes the night’s sweat and sebum but doesn’t strip the skin of essential oils.
If you have a sensitive skin you’ll love Colloidal Oatmeal Cleanser from New York Dermatology,a cleanser with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E. As the Stranger Things star Natalie Dayer stated, this is the perfect cleanser for sensitive skins. She also said that she “goes back and forth with cleanser” depending on what her skin needs.
Another cleanser that is the perfect ally to your summer – even for the most oily skin – is the gelly Soy Face Cleanser by Fresh. Gently cleansing without disrupting the skin’s pH levels, it’s formula is infused with upcycled soy proteins to improve skin elasticity.
2. Exfoliate gently
The key to avoid any nasty breakouts during the summer? Gentle exfoliation is a life-saver in this hot summer days Darlings. Exfoliate properly cleanses all the dead skin cells, oil, sweat, and sunscreen that accumulates on your body during the day, without damaging your tan.
We are fan of the total pink exfoliating skin perfector Solution by Glossier. This is a chemical exfoliant which uses a 10% blend of skincare acids to remove dead skin and sweep it away, so your skin appears smoother, softer, and glowier.
If you prefer a physical exfoliant rather than a chemical one, we suggest the Refining Exfoliator by Susanne Kaufmann. This is a gentle exfoliator formulated with a blend of natural and botanical ingredients to slough away dullness and leave skin beautifully smooth, luminous and soft.
3. Lighten Up Your Moisturizer
Sweaty doesn’t mean hydrated. Seasonal dryness is less common in the summertime, as our skin tend to produce more and more sebum, so you don’t need a rich cream as you use in the winter. It’s important though to keep your skin moisturized. Drop all products that contain heavy oils and creams and switch to light hyaluronic acid-based moisturizers. They are great at maintaining hydration without making you feel sticky and heavy. We’re fans of this fantastic Watermelon Glow Pink Juice by Glow Recipe. This 100% oil free cooling gel-emulsion absorbs instantly to seal in hydration and prep skin for the day ahead.
A lighter alternative that drives us crazy is the Hydratating Face Mist by Dr. Barbara Sturm. The mists are perfect to refresh skin throughout the day, as needed, without burden your skin.
4. Sunscreen is your BFF
As we use to say you should wear sunscreen all day, every day, all year round. Especially during the summer months, when the days are longer and we tend to spend more time outdoor. Sunscreen minimizes and prevent UV damage like wrinkles, spots and other aging signs. DARLING creams and lotions are enriched with skin care properties, giving your skin all the nourishment and hydration it needs, while protecting it.
If you have oily skin and you feel it’s too much to use a moisturizer together with a sunscreen lotion, you should replace your moisturizing with an hydrating sunscreen that work as a one unique step.
5. Self Tan is Self Care
In summer, when the holidays are still far away but you want to feel the summer vibes and have sun-kissed skin, it’s time to experiment with self-tanners. Have you ever tried them? Well darlings, the time has come to discover this fantastic world together! Not only do the latest self-tanners give you a wonderful complexion, but above all they are safe for our skin! This is a little trick that will give to your skin a good tan without exposing yourself to the sun. There are a lot of alternative whether you are a beginner or a heavy user of this kind of beauty product. Drops, mist, mousse or cream, you can easily find the solution that work best for you!
Our favorite formula, that works both for beginners and advanced users are self-tanning drops.
Isle of Paradise has the products for you. They are called Self Tanning Drops, and they are like little sparkles of sun which you can apply over face and body. They are available in three different shades (light, medium and dark) and are soooo easy to apply, you just have to add some drops to your favorite moisturizer and apply it all over face and body (very carefully of course). Remember to always exfoliate your skin before using any kind of self-tanning product, and to wash your hands right after in case you are not applying them with gloves! In few hours you’ll skin will get a beautiful complexion.
6. Do not forget your hair!
Between sun, sea and sand, our hair in the summer gets a pretty rough deal. As well as our skin, they need some additional attentions in summer months. Which all means that before you even think about creating those JLO water waves, you need to start treating your hair with oils and masks.
First of all remember to hydrate them! With the hair oil Honey Infused by Gisou your hair are protected and hydrated, with a special smell of honey and flowers! Apply 2-3 drops into your palms and rub your hands together until the product is dispersed throughout your palms and fingers.
You can also use some heat protector sprays which will protect your hair from sun rays and hot temperatures. For example the Gisou Propoli Infused Heat Protecting Spray is a very good ally for your hair as it protects them from heat up to 230ᵒC/446ᵒF and contains a UV-filter to prevent sun damage.
